    Description

    T3 100mcg (Triiodothyronine) is a thyroid hormone studied for its direct role in regulating metabolic activity, energy expenditure, and cellular function. Researchers utilize T3 to examine how changes in thyroid hormone levels influence metabolism, weight regulation, and biological energy systems.

    T3 influences several physiological processes throughout the body. These include growth, development, metabolic regulation, body temperature control, and cardiovascular activity. Because of its metabolic activity, researchers study T3 for its effects on energy utilization and cellular metabolism.

    Additionally, some research suggests that thyroid hormones may influence skeletal muscle development. Studies indicate T3 may increase both the number and diameter of muscle fibers under certain physiological conditions.

    Mode of Action

    T3 production occurs through a hormonal signaling pathway involving the thyroid gland, pituitary gland, and hypothalamus. This system regulates thyroid hormone levels through a feedback mechanism known as the hypothalamic–pituitary–thyroid axis.

    The process begins when the anterior pituitary gland releases thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH). TSH signals the thyroid gland to produce thyroid hormones, including T3 and thyroxine (T4).

    When circulating levels of T3 and T4 rise in the bloodstream, the pituitary gland reduces TSH production. Conversely, when hormone levels decline, the pituitary gland increases TSH secretion to restore hormonal balance.

    Furthermore, T3 is considered the biologically active thyroid hormone and demonstrates greater metabolic potency than T4. Research indicates that T3 activity may be roughly four times stronger than that of thyroxine.

    Although the thyroid gland produces both hormones, only about 20 percent is released as T3. Approximately 80 percent is produced as T4 and later converted into T3 within tissues such as the liver and pituitary gland.

    This conversion occurs through removal of an iodine atom from the outer ring of T4. Consequently, this enzymatic process generates the active hormone T3 that regulates metabolic activity throughout the body.
